BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 3 – The State Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan has hosted the 29th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Federation of Prosecutors (IAP) in Baku from September 29 to yesterday.
The conference brought together approximately 470 prosecutors and legal experts from 95 countries to discuss the critical role of prosecutors in upholding the rule of law and improving the effectiveness of the criminal justice system.
Accordingly, the Brunei Darussalam delegation was led by the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor, His Excellency Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Nor Hashimah binti Haji Mohammed Taib.
The theme of the conference this year, The Role of the Prosecutor in Upholding the Rule of Law focusing on important issues such as transparency, accountability and data protection, particularly regarding digital evidence and the use of artificial intelligence. Key topics discussed during the conference included the prosecution of domestic and gender-based violence, economic crime and asset recovery.
In the meantime, His Excellency Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Nor Hashimah also held a meeting with the State Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Dr Kamran Aliyev, for the purpose of addressing various legal issues of mutual concern and also emphasized the need for international cooperation in strengthening the rule of law .
Founded in June 1995 at the United Nations Office in Vienna, IAP is an important global organization consisting of more than 183 member organizations from more than 177 countries. It plays an important role in promoting the rule of law, raising professional standards for prosecutors and increasing international cooperation in the fight against crime.
