Technology, creativity is the backbone of future education

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 3 OCT – The 34th Teacher’s Day Celebration which took place today was also enlivened with exhibition plots with the concept of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) skills and education involving students from primary schools, secondary, vocational and technical institutions and higher education highlighted in the Press Conference Hall, International Conference Center (ICC), Berakas.

In line with the theme of the celebration this year Quality Teachers Driving Educational Transformationthe exhibition has been divided into two, namely the Main Room and the Exhibition Room.

In the Main Room it displays excerpts from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Poems of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien.

While the Exhibition Room consists of several sections that reflect the various important roles of teachers in the implementation of an adaptive, inclusive and forward-thinking education system. It not only showcases the teacher’s role as an educator but also as a driver of change that inspires students.

A total of eight exhibition boxes have decorated the space, namely the Department of Administration and Services and Digital Service System under the Ministry of Education; Sultan Hassan Temburong High School and Mentiri Primary School represent Cluster 1 and 2; Berakas Middle School and Sengkurong Sixth Form Center represent Clusters 3 and 4; Tutong Sixth Form Center and Anthony Abell College represent Clusters 5 and 6; Department of Islamic Studies (JPI), Ministry of Religious Affairs (KHEU); Institute of Al-Quran Tahfiz Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB); a combination of eight institutes of higher learning (IPT); and the Center for British Teacher Education Services (CfBT).

In the exhibition section, the Department of Administration and Services and Digital Service Systems under the Ministry of Education has highlighted exhibitions related to Electronic Application System (EASE) which is a system designed to digitize processes for services offered by various departments within the Ministry of Education. It is intended for public use so as to provide ease of access to the service and effective business processes. MOE Employee Service Hub (MESH) an internal service platform specifically for staff in the Ministry of Education that has the function of being a centralized hub for various services and resources related to the Ministry of Education is also filling the exhibition space.

Among those who also decorated the exhibition spaces from students from primary, secondary schools, vocational and technical institutions and higher education were related Outdoor Learning Space which equips students with 21st century skills and technological skills to help them meet new challenges; A Future with STEAM: Key to the SDGs; Project Aquacool Suit; Environmental Care Awareness through Art, Design and Media; Green Life; and Intellectual Trail.

Through the exhibition space, it clearly highlights the role of the teacher as a mentor who fosters students’ curiosity and creativity and also as a guide in evaluating and using technology critically and is responsible for preparing students to be active in the creation and dissemination of knowledge by focusing on a cross-disciplinary approach in STEAM.

Similarly, the display in the exhibition hall also explains the role of teachers as supporters of inclusivity and diversity so that students can appreciate cultural diversity, increase empathy and not be left behind as future architects who are responsible for fostering emotional intelligence, resilience, adaptability in students as well as building spiritual aspects students through the appreciation of pure Islamic teachings by firmly adhering to the principles of the Malay Islamic Monarchy.
