National delegations participate in the China-ASEAN expo

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 4 OCT – A delegation from Brunei Darussalam participated in the 21st China ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) which took place at the Nanning International Exhibition and Conference Center (NICEC), Nanning, People’s Republic of China from September 24 to September 28.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE), here, the expo was inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Ding Xuexiang.

The delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary (Economy, Trade and Industry), MOFE, Mrs Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Ahmad Ariffin. Also present were the President and members of the Brunei Darussalam National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCIBD) as well as the BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC).

Under the main theme Upholding Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit and Inclusiveness for Common Development, Creating a Diamond Crown New Future-Promoting Development of a China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 and High-Quality Growth of This Region, ASEAN and China, The expo will continue to build strategic cooperation and strengthen understanding and trust through the concept of mutual respect between leaders and business sectors from the industry during the expo.

A total of 17 companies including Government Related Companies (GLCs), Statutory Bodies and travel agents from Brunei Darussalam participated in the expo.

Brunei Darussalam has also organized a conference to promote business opportunities in Brunei and a business matching session through a briefing delivered by the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Brunei Economic Development Board, Daniel Leong involving 100 potential investors.

Mrs. Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah also had the opportunity to meet the Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Guangxi Committee, His Excellency Huang Junhua.

Puan Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1991, bilateral investment and trade between the two countries has shown an increase and contributed to the development and economic transformation of Brunei Darussalam.

In addition, cooperation in the Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor (BGEC) has seen positive progress through various joint venture projects, including cooperation with Muara Port Company (MPC) and MPC’s subsidiary, Muara International Fish Landing (MIFL).
