Fall is always the season of possibilities, especially when it comes to your home. See what’s new and trending in home improvement and decor at the 2024 Edmonton Fall Home Show, running Oct. 18 to 20 at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

From the latest paint colours, flooring materials and renovation trends to celebrity appearances and free advice from professional designers, the three-day Edmonton Fall Home Show is loaded with value and entertainment from start to finish.

In addition to the 150-plus exhibitors who will bring their wares and inspiration to the show are Main Stage guests such as Toronto designer and founding editor of Style at Home Magazine, Karl Lohnes; organization experts and sister/owners of Tidy Matters, Pam Gilbert and Angie Smith; and the television celebrity/home handyman that home show crowds can’t ever see enough of, Bryan Baeumler.

Baeumler hosts several programs on Canadian streaming channel Stack TV and the Home Network, which feature makeovers of homes, resort properties and businesses. His home show appearances this fall feature a quick tease about another reality show coming in 2025 but will address topics of concern to Canadian homeowners.

“People always want to know about where they should spend their money to put value into their homes. This is even more important given the direction that the housing market and real estate is going. It’s a particularly challenging financial environment. There are impacts you can make for less money and that’s what people have to focus on,” he says.

His presentation on Friday, and again on Saturday, will be less about cosmetic renovations and more about investing in sustainable infrastructure that affects how the home performs.

“The key is to make financial decisions that are viable. If everyone had a ton of money, you could invest in the latest and greatest, but there’s a way to do it on a budget, as well,” Baeumler says.

This summer was spent filming a new program called Building Baeumler, a reality show about the making of his reality shows. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at his projects in Canada, the Bahamas and now, in the Florida Keys.

“It’s a look at a busy family with four kids and multiple businesses in multiple countries and the chaos around it. We’re going to get a bit more raw and real and show what it takes to take an idea right through to fruition. There are things people will be surprised to see. It’s not as easy as it looks after it’s all edited,” he says. “Like a duck sitting calm but its feet are moving at 90 mph under the water.”

Returning to the home show circuit is artist and mural specialist Ashley Rosenow of Illustrious Interiors who will curate the Paint with Purpose feature. Rosenow will mentor several budding artists in the creation of eight-by-eight-foot murals. The previous Paint with Purpose event captured the imagination of show visitors, she says.

“There’s something to say about watching any artist think of an idea and make it come to life with just paint. People are captivated by the transformation of a blank wall into a vibrant work of art. The process feels almost magical as each brushstroke continues to build and then reveals the final image. It connects the community to the art, making it an interactive experience where people can see creativity unfold in real-time,” she says.

Having a mural painted is a great alternative to wallpaper. Once the design is set, the painting takes just a few days, adding unique character.

Rosenow and assistant Amber Gubersky (@illustrious_interiors) will be painting along with Emma Wales (@artventuresyeg), and Alana Seymour (@creativecanvaspaintparties).

“I have left it up to the artists to create and paint within their style. This year, the murals will be donated to various charities across the Edmonton and surrounding areas. I’d like the artists to keep their charities in mind as they create their masterpieces,” she says.
