Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest in cases where no real common interest exists and infusing to one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels & Wars of the latter, without adequate inducement or justification.“
In 1917, the United States entered World War I to help Britain and, to a lesser extent France, against Germany. Result: 116,516 Americans dead; thousands crippled for life. Why? In 1982, the United States enters Lebanon to help. Result: 266 Americans dead. Ronald Reagan wisely pulls Americans out. In 2003, the United States invades Iraq to help who? Result: 4.492 Americans dead; thousands crippled for life. Why?
