China’s investment in countries involved in the BRI is over US$330 billion

BEIJING, 4 OCT – As of the end of 2023, direct investment of more than US$330 billion was recorded in the operation of 17,000 Chinese companies in countries involved in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

According to statistics from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the direct investment of Chinese companies in countries related to the BRI in 2023 increased by 31.5 percent, recording US$40.71 billion.

The capital is mainly invested in manufacturing industry, construction, wholesale and retail trade, and electricity supply.

At the same time, as of the end of 2023, Chinese companies have created 530,000 job opportunities for people from countries related to the BRI through the construction of a number of economic and trade cooperation zones that all involve financial allocations of approximately US$73 billion.

Also in 2023, Chinese enterprises signed engineering contracts worth US$227.16 billion with BRI partner countries and generated revenues of US$132.05 billion in local operations, with 70 percent of its operational projects being infrastructure-related, including a number of iconic engineering mega projects and smaller projects that closely related to people’s lives.
