Gray’s resignation came after recent reports of tensions between her and senior advisor Morgan McSweeney StarmerAnd she has a higher income than the Prime Minister. The BBC reported that Gray’s annual salary amounts to 170,000 pounds ($223,000), an increase of 3,000 pounds compared to what Starmer receives.
Gray said she had accepted a new position, where she would become Starmer’s regional and country envoy. McSweeney will replace her as the government’s chief of staff.
“Throughout my career, my primary interest has always been public service,” Gray said in a statement. “However, in recent weeks it has become clear to me that the extensive comments about my position may become a distraction from the government’s active work for change,” she added.
