Royals fan says local bar is good-luck charm

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — All over Kansas, fans tuned in to watch the Royals in their third post-season game. Bars around have been showing every game so far, which turns out to be good for fans and business.

Trevor Martin has watched every post-season game at Emerson Biggins Sports Bar and Grill. After their previous win against the Orioles, he says the bar has become a good luck charm.

“I was here for the last two games. For the O’s, and they beat them, so I’m a little superstitious,” Martin said. “I’ve decided to come back tonight to keep that winning momentum going against the Yankees.”

Bar manager Alex Brewer shares the enthusiasm. He’s grateful for the increased traffic.

“I smile when I see everybody just having fun, cheering. Just enjoying themselves,” Brewer said. “You get to experience the moment with others and cheer along with others. It becomes a moment.”

Trevor Martin agrees. For Saturday’s game, he brought his friend Kendall Rau.

“This guy just texted me, ‘Hey, you’ve got to come out here after work,” Rau said. “It’s a great atmosphere. I love all the TVs. [It’s] a nice sports bar.”

Saturday’s game ended in a Royals loss to the New York Yankees. Martin’s tradition may have ended, but he’s just glad they’ve made it this far.

“We’re just having fun with it so far. Going into this season, a lot of people wouldn’t have thought we’d make it this far,” Martin said. “They’re always the underdog. I love that mentality. A scrappy young team. So any chance to possible beat the Yankees or a team like that is always so much fun.”

He said that he was worried attending Wednesday’s fourth post-season game in Kansas City would break his streak of good luck. Now, there’s not much left in his way.
