Man seen yelling at passing cars near Whole Foods arrested on warrant: University Heights police blotter

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio —

Warrant arrest: Cedar Road

At 7:20 p.m. Sept. 26, police were called to the area around Whole Foods, 13940 Cedar Road, on a report of a man yelling at cars.

Police located the man and learned that he was wanted on a Beachwood police warrant. The 38-year-old University Heights man was turned over to Beachwood police.

Suspicion: Cedar Road

At 5:40 p.m. Sept. 23, the manager of a property located in the 13600 block of Cedar Road reported that a family, sometime in the past two months, had gained entry to the residence and moved in their belongings under a fraudulent lease agreement.

Police are investigating.

Traffic violations: Washington Boulevard

At 11:20 p.m. Sept. 23, an officer stopped a car that was operating without working headlights and that had an expired registration.

The driver, a Shaker Heights woman, 19, was cited for these violations, and for driving without a license. Her car was impounded.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 3:45 p.m. Sept. 26, officers were called to Target, 14070 Cedar Road, where loss prevention personnel had detained for shoplifting a University Heights man, 38.

The suspect is alleged to have stolen merchandise totaling $152.99. Police charged the man with theft.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 12:50 p.m. Sept. 25, Target loss prevention reported a theft in progress in which two girls were fleeing the store with merchandise.

Police apprehended the girls, 14, of South Euclid, and 14, of Bedford Heights. One girl stole goods totaling $125.95, and the other, $186.95.

Both girls were turned over to their parents and released.

OVI: Warrensville Center Road

At 2:30 a.m. Sept. 26, an officer stopped a car for speeding at Warrensville Center and Cedar roads. The driver, a Garfield Heights woman, 29, was subsequently found to be intoxicated.

Police arrested the woman for OVI, speeding and other traffic offenses.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26, loss prevention at Target reported that it had detained for theft a University Heights man, 25. The man is accused of stealing merchandise worth $145.77.

Police charged the man with theft.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 5:55 p.m. Sept. 27, loss prevention at Target reported that a boy, 15, of Cleveland, accompanied by a woman, stole merchandise totaling $353.75. The boy was detained, but the woman fled. She was later identified as a Cleveland resident, 24.

The woman was served a citation for theft.

Theft from auto: Warrensville Center Road

At 11:20 a.m. Sept. 28, police responded to a report that someone broke the window of a car parked in the garage near Macy’s, 2201 Warrensville Center Road at University Square, and stole from the auto a gun.

On Oct. 1, Cleveland police informed the UHPD that a suspect was arrested after the stolen gun was found in a driver’s car during a traffic stop. The suspect admitted stealing the weapon.

OVI: South Green Road

At 1:15 a.m. Sept. 29, police were notified of an intoxicated male at Bar One, 2179 S. Green Road. The bar’s employees wanted the man escorted off the premise.

Police escorted the male out of the bar and advised him to not drive home and to wait for a sober driver to get him home safely. After officers left, the man 51, of Cleveland Heights, was seen driving away from the area.

Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested him for OVI, refusal to take a breath test with a prior OVI conviction on his record, and not driving within marked lanes.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 12:15 p.m. Sept. 29, loss prevention at Target reported that a man attempted to steal $60.99 worth of merchandise, then left the store.

Officers found the man, 21, of Cleveland Heights. across Cedar Road at Burger King and charged him with theft.

Domestic violence: Warrensville Center Road

At 6:50 p.m. Sept. 29, a woman, 53, reported that, during an argument, her daughter, 15, struck her in the face. The girl suffers from numerous mental health disorders.

The matter was forwarded to the detective bureau for a juvenile court filing.
