After Philadelphia won the regular season series 7-6, the first postseason meeting between the rival Mets and Phillies has lived up to the hype. Both teams have exchanged comeback victories in Philadelphia as the series shifts to Queens.

Game 2 featured six lead changes and five home runs in the final four innings. Both closers blew the save. October baseball at its finest.

The Phillies

Philadelphia is coming off a miraculous walk-off single from Nick Castellanos to avoid an 0-2 hole heading to the Big Apple. It was his fifth walk-off of the year. Tre Turner crossed the plate to a mob.

Bryce Harper and Castellanos both tallied a pair of RBI. The duo connected for back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3. Philadelphia added three more runs in the eighth.

The back-and-forth slugfest proceeded before Castellanos sprinkled some familiar magic into the stands.

The Phillies’ offense looked much more comfortable than their two-run performance in Game 1. They have scored four or more runs in five of their last eight games.

Phillies players to watch

Kyle Schwarber has been sizzling. He finished the month of September with a 1.012 OPS. That productive play carried over into a home run in his opening at-bat in the NL Wild Card game. He notched a team-high 38 home runs and 104 RBI in the regular season.

Bryson Stott delivered a mammoth two-out, two-strike, two-run triple in the eighth, which set up the comeback. Will Stott get a spot in the lineup tonight, or will matchup strategy force him to be utilized as a timely replacement in crunch time?

A struggling Alec Bohm will be back in the lineup after being benched to begin Game 2. Bohm is 2-for-31 in his last 33 at-bats.

The Mets

New York was painfully close to taking a 2-0 series lead. They botched a pair of late leads, falling 7-6. The regrouping process begins at the friendly confines of a sold-out Citi Field.

Victory was within reach as Mark Vientos delivered four RBI and a two-run blast while Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo also went yard. The upset minded bunch watched it slip away in the final inning.

The Mets have allowed four or more runs in three of their last five games and six of their last 10.

New York’s last home NLDS game occurred in 2015 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets won the series in five games.

Mets players to watch

Tonight’s pitching matchup

(Phil) Aaron Nola (14-8, 3.57 ERA) vs. (NYM) Sean Manaea (12-6, 3.47)

Nola delivered his best performance of the season with a May 14 shutout of the Mets. The righty has 2.49 ERA in 12 starts against the rival from New York. Nola has been consistent in the opening rounds of the playoffs, but tends to deteriorate as the stakes get higher.

Manaea has cruised into the postseason with a 6-2 record and 3.09 ERA over his last 12 starts. He shook off some previous postseason nerves with an admirable six hit, two run showing against the Brewers in the Game 2 of the Wild Card. The Phillies have had his number though, allowing 10 runs in 16 2/3 innings with three starts. Most of those came in a single game.

Fifteen of the 21 runs scored in this series have been allowed by each team’s bullpen.
