Samantha Barry thanks Anna Wintour after landing new Glamour role

Cork native Samantha Barry has thanked Anna Wintour for her support after being appointed as Glamour’s first global editorial director.

Ms Barry has been named Glamour US’ first global editorial director, under which she will oversee its global content strategy across Germany, Mexico and Latin America, Spain, Britain and the US.

In a post shared on social media, the Ballincollig native said: “Some news about my new role at @condenast. I will be leading all the @glamourmag globally!

“Thank you Anna Wintour for your support and @deborah_joseph for being an amazing partner these past few years.”

In a statement, Anna Wintour, Condé Nast chief content officer and global editorial director of Vogue, said: “I can’t think of a stronger leader to become Glamour’s first-ever global editorial director.

“Sam has impeccable editorial instincts and has successfully led Glamour into its digital future. She is passionate and cares deeply about what matters most to women today as shown through her powerful advocacy for issues like paid family leave. I’m incredibly excited for Glamour’s next era under her direction.”

Barry, who is originally from Ballincollig and has worked in more than 25 countries, also served as a social media producer and journalist at BBC World News in London, and as a reporter and producer for RTÉ and Newstalk.

She was the first guest in the second season of the ieBusiness Podcast.
