BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 9 – The performance and speech delivery from Awang Muhammad Iqbaal Syakib bin Haji Suhib managed to capture the hearts of the panel of judges where he emerged as the winner for Category A and the overall winner of the 4th Culture, Youth and Sports Minister’s Cup History Speech Competition, 2024 which took place at the Dewan Jawatan In, Brunei History Center (PSB), today.
Present as the guest of honor and completing the presentation of prizes to the winners of the competition was the Permanent Secretary (Culture), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS), Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan.
In a competition that carries the theme, History of National Development Catalyst10 out of 43 participants managed to advance to the final stage after going through the screening stages held on July 2, July 4 and July 6.
In the final stage, five participants from Category A, which are youth aged 18 to 35 years old, consisting of citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam, Malay and non-Malay, and five participants from Category B, which are Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students of schools- Government and private secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam have presented their respective speech titles through early voting.
The ceremony continued with the presentation of prizes to the winners, followed by the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the sponsors and the four panel of judges namely Dr Haji Mohd Rozan bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Dr Siti Badriyah binti Haji Mohd Yusof, Haji Rosli@Ismail bin Haji Ampal and Dr Mohammed Zefri Ariff bin Mohammed Zain Ariff.
For Category A, the runner-up went to Dayang Nurkhairah Afiqah binti Metamit, followed by Awang Muhd ​​Syahir Aqil bin Haji Muhd ​​Saiful Nurrizam, Awang Muhammad Noor Fauzan Azizi bin Haji Mazne and Awang Muhammad Zainul Hamdi bin Haji Alladin, who each got third place, fourth and fifth.
Meanwhile, for Category B, the runner-up is Dayangku Nurul Farah binti Pengiran Noor Rumaizi and the runner-up is Awang Mohd Khairul A’fifi bin Awang Abu Hanafiah. The third, fourth and fifth places were respectively won by Awang Muhammad Aam Ramadhani bin Alif Akhari, Awangku Muhd ​​Nur Safwan bin Pengiran Samrulaspwinizam and Awang.
For both categories, all winners received cash of $1,000 for the champion, $700 (runner-up), $500 (third place), $200 (fourth and fifth place), accompanying trophies, certificates of participation and sponsored prizes.
Meanwhile, Awang Muhammad Iqbaal Syakib with his speech titled, Understanding National Sovereignty Through Historical Appreciation has brought home the Cup of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in the competition organized by the PSB.
In the competition, the participants presented insightful views and comments as a result of historical research and study on a historic event in Brunei Darussalam.
The views and comments are presented to the public through creative arguments, especially in connecting the general public with the history of the nation and the country.
Knowledge, learning and appreciation of the country’s history will be able to give awareness to the youth generation about the value of history for the well-being and development of the country and further foster, instill and strengthen feelings of loyalty and love for the king, religion, nation and country.
