Akronym Brewing closing in downtown Akron

Akronym Brewing closing in downtown Akron

AKRON, Ohio – Akronym Brewing announced Wednesday that it is closing this month.

The brewery thanked its staff and customers in a Facebook posting that said in part:

“Although it was our intention to consolidate operations and reestablish ourselves by focusing on distribution, changing circumstances and narrowing opportunities make that impossible. … there have just been too many obstacles to overcome. These years have been a labor of love, and we are sorry that this is where we are.”

The post said the brewery’s last day will be Saturday, Oct. 19.

The brewery opened at 58 E. Market St. in downtown Akron in 2018 and won awards in assorted competitions for its beers.

The writing on the wall came last month when the brewery announced Akronym Public House & Pilot Brewery, a Medina outpost for the Akron-based brewery, would close Sept. 28.

In March, R. Shea Brewing closed its two locations in Akron.
