Malaysia’s unemployment rate fell to 3.2 percent in August

KUALA LUMPUROCT 10 – Malaysia’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.2 percent in August from 3.3 percent in the previous month, recording 558,500 people unemployed, according to official data released today.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in a statement said the Malaysian labor market in August continued to expand following favorable economic growth, with a continued increase in the number of workers.

Accordingly, the number of labor force in August continued to strengthen, with a month-on-month increase of 0.1 percent to 17.22 million people.

As recorded last month, the labor force participation rate in August was at 70.4 percent.

“Malaysia’s labor market is expected to remain stable throughout the year, driven by an increase in tourism activities, export expansion and employment-related initiatives under various national master plans,” said DOSM. – Xinhua
