ExxonMobil intensifies the search for gas off Greek Crete

The Greek Energy and Hydrocarbon Resources Management Company explained that the consortium of ExxonMobil Hellenic Energy acquired a total of 7,789 km of 2D seismic data in the “Southwest” block off the island of Crete, compared to the minimum requirement of 3,250 km of 2D data needed for the project to move forward.

She added Greek company The consortium will now move to the second phase of collecting 3D seismic data in the region. This process will take three years and will determine the final decision on exploratory drilling.

Greece, which considers gas a transitional fuel while intensifying its efforts in the field of renewable energy, has produced small quantities of oil in the past and has resumed its efforts to explore its potential hydrocarbon capabilities after the energy crisis in Europe in 2022.
