Deirdre O’Kane, Burren festival, Cate Blanchett’s new show… 

The Burren, Co Clare. Friday and Saturday, October 11-12 

A voyage of music and art across the beautiful Burren, Common Threads is co-organised by electronic artist Daithi (HousePlants) and features the likes of John Francis Flynn, Sorcha Richardson, and Ailbhe Reddy, among many other acclaimed Irish artists. There’s a full-day bus voyage on Saturday calling to key landmarks and historical sites and individual location tickets are available too for the likes of L’Arco, Ballyvaughan, and O’Donohue’s Pub, Fanore.

Apple TV+, Friday, October 11.

A seven-part series, with the first two episodes out on Friday, Cate Blanchett stars as Catherine Ravenscroft, a TV documentary journalist whose work has been built on revealing the transgressions of long-respected institutions. When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realise she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets.

Directed by Oscar-winning Alfonso Cuaron (Roma), the stellar cast includes Sacha Baron Cohen as Blanchett’s husband, with Disclaimer based on the bestselling novel by Renee Knight.

Comedy: Deirdre O’Kane 

 Everyman Theatre, Cork. Sunday, October 13 

 Riding high on the back of Keep it Tight, a podcast she presents with fellow comedian Emma Doran, Drogheda-born Deirdre O’Kane returns to Cork with her latest show O’Kaning It. Delving into various relationships and experiences, she says it’s her darkest show yet. Will she conquer the chaos or revel in it? Tame the mayhem or O’Kane it?

Gig: Secret Song 

Levis’ of Ballydehob, Cork. Sunday, October 13 

An annual event of music and spoken word, one of the best venues in the country squeezes some 20 acts in over the course of a single day.

Secret Song is exactly as it is titled – a secret. On the day, everyone moves from room to room, to the back garden, from the Parlour, to the ‘Outback’ without knowing who is playing. Now in its 10th year, as always, no line up is announced in advance.

Light projection: Elinor O’Donovan: Winter Sun 

Triskel Arts Centre, Cork. From Tuesday, October 15 

A moving-image work by Cork artist Elinor O’Donovan, inspired by the iconic view from the top of Patrick’s Hill at Bells Field, will be projected on the exterior of Triskel Christchurch. 

Part of Island City: Cork’s Urban Sculpture, itwill be visible after sundown until 10pm each evening until next April. The video work is a looping film depicting Corkonians sharing a moment of togetherness, connected by their mutual appreciation for a setting summer sun.
