DETROIT — José Ramírez slammed his bat emphatically to the ground after crushing his first home run of the 2024 postseason on Thursday to give the Guardians a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning at Comerica Park.
Mired in a 1 for 11 skid after connecting for 39 home runs in the regular season, Ramírez cruised around the bases as he celebrated connecting for the first time since Sept. 28.
Detroit lefty Tyler Holton left a changeup belt-high over the middle of the plate and Ramírez delivered a 418-foot blast to the seats in left field.
It marked the third playoff home run of Ramírez’s career and his second extra-base hit of the 2024 postseason.
The homer put Cleveland in front, briefly, before Tanner Bibee served up a leadoff home run to Zach McKinstry in the bottom of the fifth. The Tigers and Guardians are tied 2-2.
