This year is the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the union with the celebration theme, 150 years of enabling communication and empowering communities across the country which recognizes the important role the union has played since its inception in 1874 in connecting communities around the world.

Since January 1985, Brunei Darussalam is a member of the Universal Postal Union. The Postal Service Department in this country has undergone a significant transformation, along with the changing times and the needs of society.

In line with the Postal Vision 2030 outlined by the Universal Postal Union to form a resilient, inclusive and dynamic postal sector, the Department of Postal Services also continues to grow in the digital era as many consumers switch to purchasing online.

Thus, the need for physical delivery such as parcels and small packets remains relevant and still reflects ongoing demand, in line with the development of the e-commerce sector.

Over the past 5 years, the number of letters sent in this country has decreased by 65 percent from 4.3 million in 2019 to 1.5 million in 2023. The decrease is offset by the increase in parcel delivery and which is consistently received and requested by the public.

Opportunities continue to be seized with domestic delivery for the delivery of medicines and documents such as Driving Licenses and Vehicle Licenses which have received a very encouraging response.

The Department of Postal Services for the second year in a row has received an Award for the quality of Express Mail Services (EMS) customer service, proving the department’s excellent commitment in providing services.

In conjunction with the Commemoration of the 118th anniversary of the establishment of the Postal Service Department and the celebration of World Postal Day, the Postal Service Department is determined to continue to improve postal services, for the benefit and well-being of the people and the country.
