Fast food giant returns a 1990s favorite to menu

Fast food giant returns a 1990s favorite to menu

IRVINE, California — The Double Decker Taco, a favorite of Taco Bell customers during the 1990s, is returning to the menu nationwide.

It’s not a permanent deal, though. Today reports the Double Decker again will disappear into history on Oct. 30.

Eat This, Not That reports the return of the Double Decker is one of several onetime favorites that briefly will be revived by Taco Bell as part of its “Nostalgic Menu.” The Double Decker was first offered on a limited-time basis in 1995, then became a permanent menu item in 2006, Today reports. However, it was removed in 2022.

The taco, which costs $2, is a bean-filled tortilla wrapped around a taco shell and filled with seasoned beef, lettuce and shredded cheddar cheese, Today reports. It most recently appeared on the menu in December.

Eat This, Not That reports other items set for brief return are the Tostada, the Green Burrito, the Meximelt, the Beef Gordita Supreme, and the Caramel Apple Empanada. No timeline was reported on when the items will be added.

According to Statista, Taco Bell, which is owned by Yum! Brands, has more than 8,500 locations worldwide and serves more than 2 billion customers.
