UTB achieved global recognition in The Higher Education

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 11 OCT – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) has stepped into the global stage with its debut appearance in the prestigious World University Ranking 2025, Times Higher Education (THE).

Securing a position among the top 801 to 1,000 institutions worldwide, UTB’s inclusion highlights its rapid rise as a leading institution in higher education and is now ranked among the top 23 universities in ASEAN.

The impressive achievements have reflected a strong focus on academic excellence and innovation in the competitive landscape of Southeast Asian academia.

UTB’s recognition among the world’s leading universities marks an important step towards realizing its vision to become Global Future University.

The university’s maiden ranking alongside well-known institutions such as the National University of Singapore (ranked 17th globally) and Nanyang Technological University (ranked 30th) is a testament to its rising trajectory and influence in the region.

THE World University Rankings carefully assess institutions based on five important criteria of educational excellence, namely teaching, research environment, research quality, industry involvement and international outlook.

UTB’s best performance is in the International Review category which shows its dedication to fostering global collaboration, in addition to its increasingly diverse student body and international research partnerships, UTB further strengthens its position at the global academic level.

In addition to international recognition, UTB stands out in the Quality of Teaching and Research criteria, demonstrating its commitment to delivering high-quality learning experiences.

UTB also scored well in the industry engagement criteria, which reflects the ability to bridge academia and industry.

While in the Research Environment criteria, UTB has shown strength in research productivity and the ability to generate research income.

The achievement underscores the university’s continued dedication to fostering a vibrant research culture that encourages forward-thinking creativity and innovation.

By focusing on global collaboration, innovative research and nurturing talent, UTB is taking important steps in realizing Brunei Vision 2035.

The recognition not only strengthens the university’s strategic direction, but also increases its global prominence, setting the stage for continued growth and future achievements on the international stage.

The Vice Chancellor of UTB expressed his appreciation to His Majesty His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as Chancellor of UTB.

Appreciation is also addressed to the Honorable Minister of Education, UTB Council, staff and students for their unwavering support.
