See how No. 4 Hoban beat No. 5 Glenville, 20-0, in a defensive slugfest

AKRON, Ohio — Ohio State football recruit Eli Lee finished with at least nine solo tackles, including two sacks and three more tackles for loss to pace Archbishop Hoban’s defense Friday night in a 20-0 win against Glenville.

For Lee, it marked the second straight year he delivered a big game against the defending OHSAA Division IV state champions.

“They lost a few of their playmakers on offense, but they still have a ton of athletes,” Lee said. “They’re a really good football team. We just showed up to play.”

Lee and the Knights (6-2), who are ranked fourth in this week’s cleveland.com Top 25, bounced back from a rivalry loss the previous week to undefeated Walsh Jesuit. They scored on their opening drive with a 2-yard Brayton Feister touchdown run, set up by short field position, and kept that advantage for the rest of the game vs. No. 5 Glenville (5-3).

The Tarblooders managed just 110 yards, including 36 yards on the ground. Junior C.J. Newell paced them with 50 yards on 13 carries, while sophomore quarterback LaMarques Greenwood II completed 9 of 26 passes for 74 yards. Glenville committed three turnovers, including two fumbles and an interception in the end zone by Eastern Michigan commit Tylan “Juice” Boykin to preserve the shutout.

Hoban rushed for just 61 yards against Glenville’s defense, led by junior linebacker Cincere Johnson, who also has an Ohio State offer. Feister paced the Knights’ ground game with 69 yards on 23 carries, including that early score. Junior quarterback Trent Hayden completed 8 of 15 passes for 67 yards.
