Get ready for temperature whiplash! Wichita hit 93 degrees today, breaking the previous record daily high of 91 degrees set in 1975. We will tumble back into the 60s by the start of the week behind the passing boundary.
The boundary has stalled across the northern half of the state, with those to the south baking in the 80s and 90s. Northerly winds follow behind the boundary, bringing in cooler air to the region.
Elevated risks for fire weather stay in place this evening across northwest Kansas where the strongest winds are located. Please avoid any outdoor burning.
Temperatures tonight will be a wide range. The 40s and 50s will cover the region with those closest to the Oklahoma state line holding on to the warmest overnight temperatures. Winds swing to be out of the north for the entire state by daybreak tomorrow.
Winds will remain strong out of the northeast through tomorrow, pulling cooler and drier air into the Sunflower state.
Temperatures will drop dramatically in the wake of the front with highs tomorrow falling into the 70s. A few 80s will be possible across far southern parts of central Kansas. Winds stay breezy with sunny skies.
Frost Advisories are in place for parts of northwest Kansas early Monday morning. Overnight lows fall quickly into the low to middle 30s. Sensitive plants will need to be covered or brought indoors.
Sunshine and mild temperatures stick around for the workweek. We slowly warm back into the upper 70s by the second half of the week. Temperatures crash again by Saturday as our next cold front arrives.
We have to wait until next weekend for moisture as our next wave of energy looks to bring much-needed rainfall to the state by Friday and Saturday.
Saturday will be a soggy one with scattered showers and storms throughout the day. Temperatures fall back into the 70s thanks to rain-cooled air.
