See how No. 6 St. Edward beat Football North, 22-12

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Coming off a rivalry win vs. St. Ignatius and a trip to Cincinnati next week to face one of the top challengers to its state football title defense, St. Edward didn’t fall into a trap game with its 22-12 victory against Clarkson Football North.

Coach Tom Lombardo encouraged his players to smile and enjoy their win against the Canadian prep team, which now sets the stage for a trip to Archbishop Moeller.

Against Football North (4-3), St. Edward jumped out to a 15-0 halftime lead and remained ahead by two possessions the rest of Saturday. Junior receiver Zach Hackleman paced the Eagles (5-3), who are No. 6 in the cleveland.com Top 25, with 11 receptions for 141 yards. He scored twice on touchdown passes from Thomas Csanyi, including one early and another late.

Csanyi threw for 225 yards and three TDs, including an early score to Bradley Eaton. Luke Hess added 53 yards on four receptions.

Defensively, the Eagles didn’t give up a score until late in the third quarter. The Chargers rushed for 73 yards against them, but found success late through the air with sophomore quarterback Jacob Mueller, who threw for 175 yards and found Lucas Weir (79 yards on seven receptions) and Zion Grant (89 yards on three receptions) for the bulk of it.

Junior Diondre Taylor had St. Edward’s only sack on Mueller. He added two tackles for loss.

See how it unfolded with the videos above and hear from Hackleman, coach Tom Lombardo after his 200th career victory, Joseph Saffold and senior defensive end Yon German.
