SAO PAULO, OCT 13 – The storm that hit Sao Paulo in southeastern Brazil on Friday evening claimed at least seven lives, the Civil Defense agency said yesterday.
Xinhua reported three deaths due to a wall collapse in Bauru, while four others were killed by falling trees in Diadema, Cotia and the city of Sao Paulo.
Winds reached speeds of up to 107.5 kilometers per hour in Sao Paulo, the highest since 1995, causing power outages and affecting about 10 million people for more than 15 hours.
Water supplies in Sao Paulo and nearby cities including Sao Bernardo do Campo, Cotia, Sao Caetano, Santo Andre and Diadema were also disrupted. – Named
