CLEVELAND, Ohio — The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year made his biggest play of the 2024 season at an important time for the Browns.
Myles Garrett not only blocked a 57-yard field goal attempt by Eagles kicker Jake Elliott on Sunday, but Rodney McLeod Jr., a former member of the Eagles, scooped up the loose ball and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 10-10.
Garrett leapt clear over Eagles longsnapper Rick Lovato and got his hand on the kick to block it. McLeod scooped the ball up at the 50-yard line and got key blocks from Tony Brown II and Mohamoud Diabate on his way to the end zone.
This isn’t the first time Garrett has flashed off his athleticism to block a field goal.
He actually did it nearly a full year ago against the Colts in Indianapolis when he blocked a 60-yard field goal attempt from Matt Gay. But unlike on Sunday against the Eagles, the Browns had to settle for a field goal after the block.
The score capped off a stretch of 10 points for the Browns in the final two minutes of the half to force a tie despite being outgained, 200 yards to 71.
