Storm Track 3 Forecast: Frost Advisories overnight, comfy start to the week

Last night, the cold front that tracked through the state brought northerly winds to the region. Not only did this help bring a fall-like feel to our Sunday, but it also ushered in more wildfire smoke from the Pacific Northwest.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Frost Advisories overnight, comfy start to the week

Hazy skies have been visible across much of the region thanks to the smoke. Air quality is at a good or moderate level across the state.

Temperatures felt the effects of the cold front today. We went from setting record highs in Wichita in the mid-90s yesterday to highs near our seasonal normal today in the 70s. Northern Kansas was a touch cooler in the 60s while areas in southeast Kansas reached into the 80s.

Elevated fire weather concerns are in place this evening for areas that have seen the warmest temperatures. With breezy winds and dry conditions, any spark that starts could easily get out of control. Please avoid any outdoor burning.

Northeasterly winds continue to drop temperatures overnight. Lows will range from the 30s to the 40s with clear skies.

With temperatures falling into the 30s for northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska, Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings are in place through 9 AM Monday. Sensitive plants will need to be covered or brought indoors tonight.

It will be a chilly start to the day tomorrow with temperatures in the 40s as we head out the door. A sweater might be needed for the first half of the day, but we reach much more comfortable temperatures in the afternoon.

Highs will range from the 60s to the 70s on Monday. Western Kansas will see winds becoming southerly in the early part of the day, allowing for warmer air to filter in and for the part of the state to be a few degrees above central Kansas.

Temperatures stay cool for the first half of the week as we trend below average. Strong southerly flow will take hold by Thursday, allowing for temperatures to warm back up as we approach the weekend.

An opportunity for moisture will be knocking on our door Friday night into Saturday morning. Scattered showers will be possible throughout the weekend, bringing some much-needed rainfall to the region.
