Borouge transports 700 thousand tons of its products via Etihad trains within a year

According to a statement from the company seen by Sky News Arabia, more than 36,000 Borouge containers have been transported since September 2023, from the railway freight station in Ruwais Industrial City To Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, via Etihad Rail Cargo, a subsidiary of Etihad Rail, which operates this service.

The trip now takes only about four hours, compared to about 12 hours when using other means of transportation, which enables Borouge to achieve greater cost efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

The train transportation service, which came under an agreement signed by the company “Bruges“With Etihad Rail at the end of 2022, it opens broader horizons for the company’s growth and development and also supports its flexibility in the face of weather conditions such as fog, compared to land transportation.

Hazim Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Borouge, said: “Using the railway network to transport our products from the Ruwais Industrial City station has enabled us to discover more new opportunities, and strengthen our focus on exporting the company’s made-in-the-Emirates solutions, to meet the growing demand from customers. As well as strengthening local supply chains.”

Al Suwaidi added: “Through this partnership, Borouge has been able to transport larger loads of products intended for export on each trip via railway and at higher speeds, which has contributed to enhancing our competitiveness, and has enabled us to reduce the risks of our business by diversifying our logistical services given that shipping via railway It uses more advanced transportation networks.”

This partnership also supports the National Content Program, where 88 percent of the value of the agreement is redirected to support the growth and diversification of the local economy.

This agreement is based on the long-term partnership between Etihad Rail and ADNOC, which is the first company to use Etihad Rail’s services to transport sulfur granules throughout the UAE and export them abroad.

The new railway freight station in Ruwais Industrial City extends over an area of ​​more than one million square metres, and the station performs all services related to shipping containers, including handling, loading and unloading, storage and maintenance of containers, thereby contributing to enhancing the progress of Borouge’s operations and expanding the reach of its products to all parts of the world. .

Borouge and Etihad Rail are currently working to expand their strategic partnership to transport products to additional ports in the UAE, including Fujairah Port.

It is noteworthy that Borouge currently provides its services to customers in more than 80 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and also provides distinguished and innovative polyolefin solutions for the infrastructure, energy, agriculture, automotive, healthcare and advanced packaging sectors.
