Storm Track 3 Forecast: Lows near freezing midweek, rainy for the weekend

Fall is in the air!  After a comfortable and cool day, temperatures turn chilly overnight.  Coldest conditions will be near the Nebraska state line.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Lows near freezing midweek, rainy for the weekend

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS was spotted overhead this weekend! Kristy Miller saw it in Atwood and captured this photo.

You still have a chance to see the comet a little longer in the western sky between sunset and 40 minutes after through October 26.

There will be another reinforcing shot of cooler air on Tuesday.

Winds will be rather strong as this settles south.  Elevated fire conditions are a concern for much of Kansas into Oklahoma.

Winds will pick up first shortly after sunrise near the Nebraska state line and track south across the region.  Winds will gust from 35-45 MPH and gradually diminish by early evening.

With the lighter wind, clear sky and fresh transport of cooler air, much of the state is under a Freeze Watch or Warning for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  Some spots will get as cold as the upper 20s to the lower 30s!

The high pressure system responsible for this chill will track to our east/southeast on Wednesday.  The wind flow will return from the south/southwest around the backside of this feature first for western Kansas.

Temperatures will respond and warm in this southerly flow.  Winds will also ramp up and enhance the threat for wildfires.

The stronger wind flow catches us between the exiting high to the east and a stronger storm system approaching from the west.  Winds from Thursday into Friday will easily gust from 35-45 MPH with isolated gusts to 50 likely!

Showers and storms will be possible over western Kansas for Friday Football Fever with the system festering to our west.

The high in the east looks rather strong and tries to block the eastward movement of rain into central and eastern Kansas until early next week, keeping rain and storms chances favored over western Kansas this weekend.

Temperatures look to moderate closer to average for this time of year into next week.
