Active weather until October 18

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 14 OCT – The weather condition is predicted to be active starting tonight until 18 October with rain, occasionally heavy and thunder expected to affect the inland areas in the late afternoon and spread to coastal areas and national waters at night and potentially continue into the early morning of the next day with wind speeds up to 45km/h during heavy rain.

While the sea conditions are generally choppy at a slight level, below 1 meter. However, it is expected to increase to a moderate to turbulent level, between 1 to 2.5 meters especially in offshore areas from 16 to 18 October.

The updated weather information was shared by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD), Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications in its statement today.

BDMD also explained that the country’s weather conditions in general are currently in the monsoon transition period which is expected to continue until the end of November 2024, before entering the northeast monsoon.

During this transitional monsoon period, local wind effects play an important role in influencing the country’s daily weather.

In connection with that, the public is advised to take early measures for active weather events that are predicted to occur.

There is a risk of flash floods especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas as well as in areas near riverbanks during continuous heavy rains and during high tide events.

Falling trees, flying roofs and landslides can also occur during strong winds and heavy rain.

The public, including drivers on the road and mariners, are advised to be aware of the latest weather forecasts, advisories and warnings issued by the BDMD and make appropriate plans for everyone’s safety.

At the same time, BDMD will continue to monitor weather conditions from time to time and issue weather advisories and warnings if necessary.
