ISTANBUL, 15 OCT – Palestine on Sunday welcomed the call of the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez to stop arms exports to Israel amid the attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, the Agency reported. Anatolia.
In a statement, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said Sanchez’s call was in line with international laws and resolutions and supported the two-state solution and human rights principles.
The Spanish prime minister on Friday called on the international community to halt arms exports to Israel, noting that Spain will stop arms sales to Israel in October 2023.
The ministry also blamed countries that supply weapons and military equipment to Israel for encouraging Tel Aviv to continue its crimes and violations against the Palestinian people.
The ministry also urged the countries that signed the Arms Trade Agreement to “take decisive action to stop the use of Israeli weapons and military equipment in serious violations of international humanitarian law, human rights and against the Palestinian civilians.”
According to the latest data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the United States (US) accounted for 70.2 percent of Israel’s conventional weapons needs between 2011 and 2020, followed by Germany at 23.9 percent and Italy at 5.9 percent.
In April, the US Congress approved US$17 billion in aid to Israel as part of a US$95 billion foreign military aid package. – Named
