NEW DELHI, OCT 15 – In a proactive effort to combat nicotine addiction and protect public health, the Maldives has become the latest country to implement a ban on electronic cigarettes.
President Mohamed Muizzu announced yesterday that the government is taking strong steps to ban the use of vap or vape.
He ordered the relevant authorities to initiate the necessary actions to ban the import of ‘vaporiser’ devices, accessories and spare parts from November 15 this year, according to a statement from the President’s office.
From December 15, the ban will also apply to the possession, use, manufacture, sale, promotion, and free distribution of electronic cigarette devices throughout the country.
Many Maldivians through postings on social media platforms welcomed the decision, stating that it will protect the community from dangerous lifestyles.
Some parties also suggest that a more extensive ban be imposed on the use of tobacco and cigarettes. – Named
