Nyamulagira volcano erupts | Gem Media Online

KINSHASA, OCT 15 – The Nyamulagira volcano located in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) reportedly erupted, according to a source from the Goma Volcano Observatory (OVG) yesterday, Xinhua reported.

The eruption caused lava to flow out of the mountain’s crater and flow north, west and southwest, OVG scientific director Charles Balagizi said.

The latest satellite images show three lava flows forming on the volcano’s slopes, with the most advanced flow traveling about 7 kilometers, according to Balagizi.

“A bright red light is visible at the top of the Nyamulagira Volcano and can be seen from the city of Goma,” he told the Congolese press agency (CPA) late yesterday.

DRC authorities have not yet given any reaction to this eruption.

The Nyamulagira volcano is considered one of the most active volcanoes in Africa.

Goma is home to two active volcanoes, Nyamulagira and Nyiragongo.

Mount Nyiragongo erupted in May 2021, resulting in approximately 32 deaths. – Named
