Operation Kabat detained 3 foreigners

ANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 15 – Three foreigners were arrested in two sting operations conducted by the Law Enforcement Division, National Immigration and Registration Department (JIPK), recently.

According to a statement issued by JIPK, Operation Kabat 113/2024 conducted by JIPK Bandar Seri Begawan targeted a rental house in Mukim Sengkurong, where three foreigners were checked and one of them was arrested and taken to the Law Enforcement Division for further investigation.

As a result of the inspection, the individual is believed to have committed an offense under Regulation 15(2), Immigration Regulation, Chapter 17 i.e. working not with the original employer and regulation 15(3), Immigration Regulation, Chapter 17 i.e. working not according to the job title recorded in the passport his work.

Meanwhile, Operation Kabat 114/2024 was conducted by JIPK Kuala Belait branch, which targeted a construction project site in Mukim Belait, where two foreigners were checked and then arrested and taken to the Law Enforcement Division for further investigation.

As a result of the inspection, the two individuals failed to present any original documents. In addition, one of the foreign nationals is suspected of committing an offense under Regulation 15(2), Immigration Regulation, Chapter 17 and the other is believed to have committed an offense under Regulation 35(1), Immigration Regulation, Chapter 17, which is responsible for employing the individual without knowledge of the original employer.

Meanwhile, JIPK also shared a prosecution case that has been carried out under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17 where Kartika Sari, a 41-year-old woman, an Indonesian citizen, has already been sentenced for an offense under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17 i.e. overstaying in Brunei Darussalam after his immigration pass has expired.

The individual was sentenced to five months in prison and a fine of $800 in lieu of whipping. However, the individual failed to pay the replacement amount to the whipping and reduced the prison sentence to six months.

The prosecution was made before Magistrate Sharifah Nur Baqiah binti Malai Shahran and conducted by the JIPK Prosecuting Officer, Haminah binti Haji Awang Salleh.

The case in question is the result of the arrests made during JIPK Cabinet Operation 112/2024 in houses and rented rooms in Mukim Pengkalan Batu.
