Fired employee returns as DoorDash driver, pulls gun on former co-worker: Solon police blotter

SOLON, Ohio —

Aggravated menacing: Cochran Road

At 12:05 p.m. Oct. 12, officers were called to the Giant Eagle cold storage facility at 6531 Cochran Road, where a 30-year-old employee said he had been threatened by a former employee with whom he has had disagreements in the past.

The ex-employee, a Bedford man, 29, was terminated from his Giant Eagle job and, reportedly by chance, had occasion on this day to go to the cold storage facility to drop off food in his current role of DoorDash driver.

While dropping off the food, the suspect saw the victim and allegedly brandished a gun and racked a round into the semi-automatic pistol.

The suspect then left. Police are now seeking him on an aggravated menacing charge.

Extortion: Solon Road

At 7:40 p.m. Oct. 8, a Solon teen boy reported that he had been convinced to send nude images of himself to a girl he met on TikTok. After sending the content, he was told that he needed to pay $15 in Apple cash or his pictures would be shared with his friends.

The boy paid the $15 via credit card and then, with the help of his father, had the credit card canceled. He deleted the TikTok conversation.

Detectives are investigating.

Fraud: Solon Road

At 11 a.m. Oct. 10, a Solon woman, 63, reported that her cryptocurrency had been stolen.

The woman explained to police that in February, she had difficulty finding her Coinbase account and found a number on the internet for technical support.

She was told by a person at that number that she could access her account via an app if she allowed the person on the phone line to gain remote access to her computer.

After she did this, she was advised to move some of her cryptocurrency to another wallet. Doing this would supposedly give her access to her funds.

She believed the situation had been resolved, but a few days later, she learned that her funds were gone. She lost about $4,300 worth of cryptocurrency.

Detectives are investigating.

Theft: Aurora Road

At 2:20 p.m. Oct. 10, loss prevention at Giant Eagle reported that a woman in the self-checkout lane paid for some items, but not $16 worth of groceries. She did pay for $64 worth of goods.

Through surveillance video, the woman was identified. Police called her and the woman, 27, of South Euclid, agreed to go to the Solon police station and be cited. She was charged with theft.

Theft: Inwood Drive

At 11:55 a.m. Oct. 14, a manager at the Solon Board of Education building, 33800 Inwood Drive, reported that an employee, a maintenance worker, was suspected of theft.

The maintenance worker had access to the school district’s account at a local hardware store. The manager questioned the worker about suspicious charges on the account that were made in September.

After being questioned, the worker resigned from his job.

The school district conducted an audit and believe there may be as much as $6,000 worth of fraudulent charges made dating to 2020.

The detective bureau is investigating.

Weapons offense: Brainard Road

At 3 p.m. Oct. 14, an officer stopped for a window tint violation a red Mercury sedan on Brainard Road, near Miles Road.

The officer smelled the odor of marijuana inside the car and conducted a search of the vehicle. Police found two bags of marijuana, a grinder, and a loaded pistol.

The driver, a Shaker Heights man, 19, was arrested for improper handling of a firearm, a fourth-degree felony, as well as drug abuse, drug paraphernalia possession, and illegal window tint.

Marijuana possession for those under 21 is prohibited.

The passenger, a Shaker Heights girl, 17, was not charged. She was turned over to a family member.
