BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 16 – A 34-year-old local man was fined $20,000 after pleading guilty to attempting to smuggle various vape products.
Asnawi bin Pungut will have to serve 13 months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
Charges were brought against the defendant following an incident that occurred on February 23, at the Sungai Tujoh Checkpoint in Kuala Belait, where customs officers seized 156 vape pods and a bottle of vape juice that he smuggled into the country without permission.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered the destruction of vape products. The defendant’s vehicle and mobile phone involved in the case will be returned to him.
