Storm Track 3 Forecast: Strong wind, high fire danger – weekend rain coming

The area of high pressure that brought chilly temperatures this morning is tracking southeast. Winds are picking up behind this feature to the northwest.  This enhances the fire danger through this evening especially to the north/northwest where fire alerts are in effect. More counties will be under a similar threat on Thursday.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Strong wind, high fire danger – weekend rain coming

The wind flow will be strong Thursday into Friday across the state.  Winds will gust from 35-45 MPH during this stretch with locally higher gusts.

A Wind Advisory covers portions of central Kansas tomorrow.

With dry conditions and the strong wind, high fire danger will be prevalent through Thursday and into Friday. Fire threats will be elevated even in areas where Fire Weather Warnings may not be issued, so all of Kansas should use caution.

High temperatures tomorrow will be warmer, reaching into the 70s and 80s.

The strengthening wind flow is in response to the exiting high to the southeast and a budding storm system to the southwest.  This storm system will be cutoff from the flow.

Pieces of energy will bring chances for rain and storms into western Kansas first on Friday. Saturday and Sunday offer up more opportunities for moisture farther west.

Central and Eastern Kansas have a better shot late Sunday into Monday once the low lifts across the region.

There will be a big difference in rain potential from the eastern side of the state versus the west. The west will win with the most!

Temperatures will trend warmer during the overnights and the afternoons going forward.  Highs in the 70s will become much more common with overnight lows favoring the 40s and 50s into next week.  There may be another quick disturbance next Wednesday, but much moisture getting squeezed from it does not look fantastic right now.
