YANGON, OCT 16 – Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing will visit China next month, two sources close to the military said. AFP today, where it will be his first visit to the country since leading a coup in 2021.
“Min Aung Hlaing plans to go to China next November… the visit has been planned since the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, visited Myanmar last August,” said a source close to the military.
“Min Aung Hlaing will visit China next month,” said another source.
Both sources declined to be identified to speak to the media.
However, AFP has contacted the Chinese embassy in Yangon for comment.
Beijing is a key international ally and arms supplier of the junta which is battling opponents across the country following its 2021 coup.
Analysts say Beijing also maintains ties with ethnic Myanmar armed groups that hold territory near its border. – AFP
