Gas and convenience store giant begins building distribution center in Northwest Ohio

FINDLAY, Ohio — Sheetz, the gas station and convenience chain with more than 100 locations in Ohio, is beginning construction on a $169 million distribution center in Northwest Ohio.

In news release provided to WFIN AM/1330, Sheetz says the new facility is slated to open in 2026 and will create more than 700 jobs over the next five years. The company currently has two distribution centers, one in Claysburg, Pa., and the other in Burlington, N.C.

The “state-of-the-art” building will be used for new food preparation and distribution services.

“We are excited about the new jobs this facility will bring to Findlay and Hancock County,” Sheetz President and CEO Travis Sheetz said in a statement. “The support from local, county, and state leaders has been instrumental in making this project a reality. As we continue expanding across Ohio and Michigan, Findlay will be a key driver of our growth and future success.”

Sheetz has more than 750 locations in Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Michigan, and Maryland. There are multiple locations throughout Northeast Ohio and 109 in the state.

The company is expanding into Columbus, Dayton an Toledo, where it opened its first location on Sept. 10. A second store in the Toledo area opened on Sept. 30 and it plans to continue its expansion in Northwest Ohio next year.

Sheetz is not alone in targeting Ohio for expansion. Buc-ees, a chain of travel centers in the south, is opening its first location in Ohio next year in Huber Heights, which is just north of Dayton. The convenience store chain Wawa, which has 1,050 stores in several eastern states, plans to open 11 stores in Ohio next year, delaware.com reports. It eventually hopes to open 60 locations, but it’s unclear if any are planned for Northeast Ohio.
