CLEVELAND, Ohio – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio decreased slightly from 2,921 last week to 2,874 this week, the state reported Thursday. That’s a week-to-week drop of fewer than 50 cases.
It was the fifth week in a row that COVID-19 case numbers dropped.
At this same time last year, the state reported just over 5,000 cases.
At least 614,619 Ohioans have received the new 2024-2025 updated vaccine COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 109,151 people from the prior week, the state reported. This represents 5.2% of the state’s population.
The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 in Ohio has reached 3,852,610.
There were 138 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to 154,806. A total of five people were admitted into the ICU, raising the total since 2020 to 15,923.
The state health department reported an additional 33 deaths from COVID-19, raising the total to 44,354. Death reporting sometimes lags by weeks.
