World Track 2024: Muhammad Shah Firdaus ninth Keirin event

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 OCT – Malaysian rider, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom finished in ninth place in the men’s keirin event at the 2024 World Track Cycling Championships held in Ballerup, Copenhagen, Denmark, early this morning Malaysian time.

The 28-year-old was stranded in the semi-finals after finishing fourth in Heat 1, behind Colombian Kevin Quintero, Kento Yamasaki (Japan) and Mateusz Rudyk (Poland) and entered the race for seventh to 12th places.

According to https://www.uci.org/race-hub/2024-tissot-uci-track-world-championships, only the top three qualifiers from each round advance to the final for the gold medal, while the rest go through a race for seventh to 12th place.

Kento emerged as the 2024 keirin world champion, while Israeli riders Mikhail Yakovlev and Kevin took home silver and bronze respectively.

Meanwhile, another Malaysian representative, Muhammad Ridwan, who is also the younger brother of Muhammad Shah Firdaus, ranked fifth in the round repechage thus not qualifying for the quarter finals.
