Driver charged with aggravated menacing following road rage incident on I-90: Westlake police blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Aggravated menacing: I-90

A driver called the Westlake Police Department at noon on Oct. 7 to report that a white pickup truck was tailgating him on I-90 westbound at Columbia Road in an apparent road rage incident.

The caller “brake checked” the offending pickup, according to the police statement. The pickup driver eventually drove around the reporting driver and brake-checked him after flipping him off. The driver of the white pickup motioned for the victim to pull over. Both drivers pulled to the berm and exited their vehicles. The driver of the white pickup pulled out a gun, words were exchanged, and the complainant drove off, according to the police department.

The man with the gun was later identified. Officers were not able to reach him for his side of the story. He was charged with aggravated menacing.

Speeding, failure to comply: I-90

Officers at 3 a.m. on Oct. 6 clocked a Kia driving eastbound on I-90 near Cahoon Road at 123 mph in a 60-mph zone.

The driver did not pull over for several miles as a police cruiser pursued. The pursuing officers called off the chase when their cruiser sustained a flat tire.

A Rocky River police officer stopped the Kia in Rocky River. The 25-year-old male Elyria driver was charged with failure to comply and speeding.

Stolen gun

A resident on Oct. 8 reported that his loaded firearm was stolen from under the front seat of his BMW, which had been parked in his driveway overnight.

The man told officers he forgot the gun and neglected to lock the vehicle doors.

Criminal damaging: Cahoon Road

Officers at 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 9 responded to a report of a man threatening to fight a mail carrier at Cahoon and Detroit roads.

The postal carrier said he drove around a landscaping truck on Creekwood Lane and soon realized that the truck was following him. The man from the landscaping truck exited his truck while both vehicles were stopped at the light at Cahoon and Detroit. The man yelled at and threatened the mail carrier while challenging him to roll down his window.

The suspect eventually kicked the side mirror of the mail truck and broke it off.

The man thought that the mirror of the mail truck had struck his vehicle on Creekwood, according to a police department statement. The suspect, a 20-year-old Westlake man, was arrested and charged with criminal damaging.

Indecent exposure: Detroit Road

A caller at 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 5 reported that a man in a pickup truck parked at Westbay Plaza on Detroit Road, had his pants pulled down and was recording himself with multiple phones.

The man left before officers arrived, but the witness provided a license plate number.

At noon on Oct. 7, an automated camera system notified officers that the suspect returned. Officers found the pickup parked at Westbay Plaza. The driver did not exit the truck.

The suspect’s vehicle was stopped after it left the lot and entered I-90. The 48-year-old Cleveland Heights man denied any criminal activity. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure for the Oct. 5 incident.
