Cigarettes, liquor, vape among those seized

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 20 – A total of 908 cartons of cigarettes, 33 cartons and 60 bottles of liquor, 2 vape and cash amounting to $110.00 Brunei ringgit were successfully confiscated by the Brunei Marine Police (POLMAR), Operations Department, Royal Brunei Police Force in a patrol operation and operations in the waters of Brunei Darussalam recently.

The confiscation is the result of efforts to thwart attempts to bring in contraband through national waters.

According to the PPDB statement, the incident happened at around 11.15pm when the Marine Police boat spotted two suspicious boats moving fast from the border of neighboring countries into the waters of the Brunei River. A chase took place and finally succeeded in intercepting and detaining a suspect boat.

The boat driver, who is also a local man, tried to escape by jumping into the water, but was later spotted and arrested by POLMAR members. While another boat was able to escape to the outside of the country’s borders.

The case was investigated in accordance with Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006. Oct and all the seized items including the boat were handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further action.
