Judge allows Google to delay the opening of the Android app store

SAN FRANCISCO, OCT 20 – A United States (US) judge recently allowed Google to delay the November 1 court-ordered deadline for the opening of an Android-powered smartphone store to compete with other app stores in an anti-competitive case filed by the Fortnite maker. Epic Games.

“Google is pleased with federal judge James Donato’s decision to temporarily stay the action sought by Epic,” a company spokesperson said, as an appeals court considered permanently blocking the order stemming from Epic’s accusations that the tech company’s Google Play store was an illegal monopoly.

“The actions threaten Google Play’s ability to provide a safe and secure experience and we look forward to continuing our case,” the spokesperson added.

In response to the decision, an Epic Games spokesperson said in an email to AFP, Google’s appeal is worthless.

“The postponement is just a procedural step,” the spokesman said.
