Poll: Most Germans oppose the government’s position on arming Israel

The survey showed that 60 percent of participants reject the export of weapons to IsraelWhile 31 percent support this, while 9 percent have not decided their position.

The Fora Institute conducted a telephone poll for Stern magazine and RTL Germany radio during October 17 and 18, and included a sample of 1,007 participants, with a maximum margin of error of ±3 percent.

Schulz also stressed the need to continue humanitarian aid to Gaza, and emphasized the importance of adhering to international law in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The German Chancellor also pointed to the importance of working towards a two-state solution.

The survey revealed different levels of support for arms exports to Israel, among supporters of political parties.

The poll indicated that among voters who support the ruling parties, rejection outweighed support, as 60 percent of Schulz’s Social Democratic Party voters and 52 percent of Free Democratic Party voters rejected the export of weapons to Israel.

Among Green Party supporters, 50 percent opposed exports, while 56 percent of CDU/CSU voters also expressed their opposition.

Opposition was strongest among voters of the populist “Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance” party, where 85 percent of them opposed sending weapons, followed by 75 percent of voters of the right-wing Alternative for Germany party.
