KUALA LUMPUR, 22 OCT – The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will continue to maintain its position in southern Lebanon despite ongoing challenges and pressure, said the Head of Mission and Force Commander, Aroldo Lazaro.
The escalating tension as well as the fierce fighting that took place recently has tested the endurance of the peacekeeping forces stationed in the area involved, he said in a broadcast on platform X.
In his visit to the two Irish battalion positions, Lázaro praised the dedication and perseverance of the unwavering peacekeepers in carrying out their responsibilities.
He emphasized that their high morale and commitment to UNIFIL’s mandate is essential to maintaining peace in the region.
“The peacekeeping forces remain in all positions in southern Lebanon, despite facing great challenges and pressure.
“I am very proud of the high morale and commitment displayed towards UNIFIL’s mandate,” he said.
UNIFIL, which was established in 1978, is responsible for monitoring the cessation of hostilities and supporting the Lebanese government in maintaining stability in the area involved. – Named
