Police charge Bonneyville woman with child luring

Article content

A former Bonnyville teacher already facing charges for sexual assault involving a minor has been charged with child luring in Wainwright.

In a news release Monday afternoon, police said they got a call on Oct. 26 from someone concerned that a child in their family was chatting on a messaging app with an adult woman they didn’t know.

This unknown woman was allegedly trying to lure the minor and their friends to a hotel room.

After conducting an investigation, Wainwright RCMP arrested Janelle Maisie Arnold, 35, of Bonnyville. Arnold is charged with invitation to sexual touching, child luring, and failure to comply with a release order.

Arnold was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 7 in Wainwright.

She had been charged in September with sexual assault and sexual interference after the parents of a student, though not one from the school at which Arnold worked, reported alleged inappropriate contact between their child and a teacher.

After an initial appearance, Arnold was released with conditions.

Northern Lights Public Schools has said Arnold is no longer a division employee.
