Batik industry preservation application launched

JAKARTA, 29 OCT – The Indonesian Ministry of Industry launched several applications such as the Batik and Handicraft Ecosystem, Syndi-Synthetical Dyes Idexation and Digital Batik Motif to help preserve and strengthen the local batik handicraft industry, reports BETWEEN.

The head of the ministry’s Industrial Assessment and Services Agency, Andi Rizaldi explained that the application was created to maintain the country’s identity, given that batik fabric has become part of Indonesia’s history and contributed to its economic progress.

“Batik has become an industry subsector that is increasingly recognized in the international arena, where the country’s batik exports will reach US$17.5 million in 2023,” he said, yesterday.

In addition to conservation efforts through the launch of the applications, the government also emphasized the importance of cooperation with relevant stakeholders.

Cooperation in batik preservation can be done by involving raw material suppliers, distributors, government, academics, designers, small and medium industry centers and other batik industries, said the Ministry’s Director General of Small and Medium Industries, Reni Yanita.

“Cooperation between businessmen by maximizing their strengths together will have an impact on the achievement of business goals more efficiently and effectively,” he explained.

According to the Ministry of Industry, the local batik industry employs 200 thousand workers in 201 industrial centers and 5,946 small and medium industries located in 11 provinces as of August 2024. – Bernama
