JAKARTA, 23 OCT – Police in Jakarta, Indonesia have arrested a foreigner for allegedly smuggling more than four kilograms (kg) of crystal methamphetamine (syabu).
The suspect, a 43-year-old Iranian national, was arrested with 4.4kg of drugs hidden in two ceramic items at a hotel in the Penjaringan area, north of Jakarta yesterday evening.
Jakarta police narcotics investigation chief, Donald Parlaungan Simanjuntak, stated today that investigators have received preliminary information about drugs hidden in ceramics sent from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Jakarta.
Officers then tracked down the recipient of the package, which led to the suspect’s arrest. Under Indonesia’s drug laws, those involved in drug-related crimes face severe penalties, including five years in prison and the death penalty. – Xinhua
