Storm Track 3 Forecast: High fire danger, pattern to flip offering more rain

The fire danger is high today with Fire Weather Warnings in effect for most of the state through early tonight.  This will carry over for several counties on Tuesday.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: High fire danger, pattern to flip offering more rain

With an uptick in moisture available in the atmosphere tomorrow, it will be more difficult for a wildfire to form.

Winds are a big issue right now.  Tonight, gusts will be in the 35-50 MPH range.

The gradient strengthens on Tuesday which means even stronger winds will blow through the region.

Tomorrow, gusts from 45-55 MPH will be likely with higher gusts.  Wind Advisories and High Wind Alerts are posted to account for the intense nature of the wind.

Wichita hit a new record high of 90 degrees Monday afternoon. This is the city’s latest 90-degree day since records began in 1888. More warmth is expected ahead of an approaching cold front on Tuesday.

A developing low pressure system will spark a few showers between 9 and 10 PM Tuesday to the northwest.

More rain and storms will fire over Central Kansas Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  A few of these storms could reach severe thresholds for damaging winds and hail.

The cold front keeps trucking slowly to the east on Wednesday.  Instability will grow after sunrise on Wednesday.

This will enable stronger storms near and east of the Turnpike during the second half of the day.

Damaging winds and large hail are the two main concerns.  Storms will become better organized by early evening before tracking through the eastern portion of our viewing area before exiting.

Temps will cool behind the front to the 60s. A freeze is likely by Halloween morning to the northwest.

A clear sky and cool temperatures will guide trick-or-treaters on Halloween evening.

More rainy weather builds into the region Friday night with widespread moisture possible this weekend and into next week.  Waves of rain will be beneficial for us.

Right now, the highest total rainfall potential from Friday night into early next week will be over Central and Eastern Kansas with less to the southwest.

Temperatures will cool into the 40s and 50s for highs once the onset of moisture takes hold.
