CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio – Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors, an all-volunteer nonprofit that provides clothing and food to families in need, is collecting old-fashioned toys and toiletries to distribute to families in need this holiday season.

The organization, which started in 1968, distributes needed items to more than 1,800 families in Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Munroe Falls, Silver Lake, Hudson and Peninsula each year, according to Donations Coordinator Alice Beatty.

“Last year we gave out gift cards to 600 families,” Beatty said. “This year, we wanted to do something that helps kids feel warmer, something that they can hold onto that isn’t tech-y.”

Good Neighbors is collecting old-fashioned toys and toiletries through Nov. 15. Community members can drop off items on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cuyahoga Falls Unit of Good Neighbors Inc. located at 1742 2nd St. in Cuyahoga Falls.

Old-fashioned toys needed include:

  • Sports balls, such as basketballs, soccer balls and footballs
  • Activity books, coloring books and crayons
  • Board games and playing cards
  • Science and art kits
  • Blocks and Legos
  • Puzzles
  • Cars and trucks
  • Dolls
  • Dinosaurs

“We think that some of the parents might have fun with the gifts their kids get too,” she said. “The games, crafts and science kits might be something that families enjoy doing together.”

Toiletries most in demand include conditioner and shaving cream, according to Beatty.

Community members can also donate money via the Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors website that the organization will use to purchase old-fashioned toys and toiletries for families in the community, according to Beatty.
